  1. If you're on a budget I recommend to ALWAYS check price history. There's cool sites (I'd share, but the one I use is for my country) that check the history of products on several stores. It shows you the lowest it's ever been, a graph on how often it goes on sale, and a lot of cool info you otherwise wouldn't have known. "What to do if you only have 400$" check all handhelds, from expensive to cheap, and look at their history. It's better to wait 2-3 months and wait for a rog ally z1e or legion go to go on sale, rather than get the steamdeck lcd (which, unless you only play emulation and indie game, you won't be too satisfied with it. The average gamer plays games the steamdeck barely handles, or can't even play) and not enjoy it. I got a brand new z1e for 399$ after waiting for 4 months for a good sale, knowing it will drop to around the same price. The legion go went as low as 480$ if I remember it right. Just check. And it's better to wait a few months for a product that you'll love and it'll last you years, than to get the cheap product that will not play the games releasing in 2025 and you'll have to replace very soon

Edit: if you're in for the used market as well, the rog ally can go down to 300$ second hand. The Steam Deck LCD down to 200$, and the steamdeck oled I personally never saw under 400$. The ROg Ally is also better cause it's a newer product than the steamdeck lcd, so you know usage damage isn't as big.

  2. If you compare a cheap windows pc with an AMD chip to a LED steam deck, realize that AMD software has a “vivid color mode” setting that when activated will totally crush that steam deck in terms of how good the display looks. If however you neglected to turn on vivid color mode then it’s not really an accurate depiction of what these devices are when you compare them. vivid color mode makes a big big difference.

  3. I just got a used Next Lite for under 300 on ebay….my 5th Ayaneo device… 4 steamdecks also, because I like replacing shells. I only really play games on my desktop haha.
