  1. The license is per server as well? Even harder sell.

And I can't find a list of what the excluded features from lifetime actually are. Just the one sentence disclaimer on the front page. Honestly, this deal is going for way too short of a time for how miniscule an amount of information has been given about this. It could be worth it, but there's too many unanswered questions.

  2. Cloudflare zero access might limit videos :/ should probly setup Caddy and portforward only 443, making everything HTTPS or Ngnix Proxymanager, and only certain things with Cloudflare

  3. I mean if they are using docker a lot of docker compose file you can usually specify a user name and password and database to point to manually and that’s how unraid basically does that in the app install config text boxes and adding your own as well if you want more

  4. Valiant effort but I honestly don't see self hosting become mainstream until everything is sold as a single plug and play box (including a step by step guide to configuring your firewall and dyndns for every isp provided router out there)

  5. Plex is pretty great, had to write my own ffmpeg scripts to batch process some content but with the help of AI I'm enjoying 50TB of ultra realistic media without the ads, lean libraries, timed offers and lower quality deliverables based on whether you agree to data harvesting clauses that are by default on.

  6. Sorry, 99$ or more for one server licensing is ridiculous. Even Plex does not limit your servers after you buy their licensing. you gave the example of the buddy system but that can apply to even yourself where you could have two servers one at home and one at the parents or somewhere off site but now you have to spend an extra hundred dollars or more on each one, not including the hardware

Keep the price at 99 for the first year and drop the one server

  7. So, it's another one of those products where the user would rather pay their way into configuring a self-hosted solution rather than spending time and knowledge configuring it. Not saying it's a bad thing, but if one would choose a paid solution anyway, at least there's finally a user-friendly one that users aren't vendor-locked into.

  8. I get paying for something if you suck at this stuff but for someone like myself who is a systems engineer with two decades of experience, this is not worth my cash. I paid a lifetime plex membership so if Hex included all app licenses inside the OS then I see value. Otherwise I will stick to my own setup. I don't need help in this department.

It may be a good idea to make an open source version that folks like me can skip the atrocious and setting-hiding "wizards" but have it look like a custom Tru-Nas server – then I would think about using it. I'm a command line junkie who automates my own stuff the first time through – then use tools like puppet or ansible to keep it working. Sorry, just not a customer.

  9. i woulkd be happy to pay for this kind of things in a version delivery manner like 99 for all the beta and ALL FUTURE versions seems execive and unmatainable if we expect this to keep improving so wi owuld like for them to say beta and maybe one or two years of version updates, So fi i want to update i have to sign in to my account and download the update and if my payment has no more versions available i need to pay anothe lifetime license
