Rumor has it that Veeam is shifting to a Linux deployment for the main VBR server, possibly as early as 2025. Huge win if true – they've been developing different components to be run on Linux and this feels like one of the last big hurdles to getting a good platform for Veeam in the homelab.

My PBS deduplication factor is 72.55 (times less space used), thanks to block level deduplication.
Great Proxmox integration out of the box, no requirements for windows, LXC support… It just works.
Synology by default does not have fast clone enabled. Go to advanced settings in Synology and enable fast clone.
Just a heads up, it's best practice to do separate backup jobs instead of one giant backup job. Otherwise, when troubleshooting you have a bunch of extra backups going on that are a waste of space and time. Also, don't put anything important on an SMB repository, you can find nightmare posts about backups being corrupted because of the way SMB works – Immutable linux repo's are the way to go (If that's not possible, NFS is a better option than SMB). I know this was a quick demo, but I wanted to point this out for anyone who's planning to use this for reliable backups. I've been working with Veeam for a decade and it's a love/hate relationship. However, I can say that Veeam has never let me down.
Great video man! I appreciate it. We're a Veeam partner and I'm so pumped about this. I do agree about the windows thing. Not because of the license but because I want to run Veeam in a docker container on our TrueNAS units. It would be so much easier to do that IMO. To me that makes D.R. way easier and write ups easier as well. Also yada yada ZFS or whatever lol.

Well I must said: I am using PBS for years now, and in my point of view, it's great! In fact I just recovery an entire PVE VMS last weekend, just with PBS!… For me, it's just work!
