If you have a computer running Windows 8/8.1, it is possible to upgrade to Windows 11 without losing your files, but the process will require extra steps.
Microsft Windows 11 Installation Assistant only support Upgrade a Windows 10 PC to Windows 11. but if you are already running a licensed and activated copy of Windows 8/8.1 and your device meet minimum system requirements for installing Windows 11. you can install windows 11 by following the steps.

Microsoft still provides a free Windows 10 upgrade to anyone trying to upgrade using a media creation tool with a genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8 / 8.1 license.

Please note around 10 GB of data is required to complete both up-gradation. AND this process will take several hours to download Windows and install it
