Installing Lubuntu on VirtualBox is a straightforward process that offers flexibility and efficiency for users seeking a lightweight Linux distribution. To begin, ensure you have VirtualBox installed on your system, along with the Lubuntu ISO file downloaded from the official website. Launch VirtualBox and click on the “New” button to create a new virtual machine. Enter a name for your Lubuntu VM and choose “Linux” as the type, with “Ubuntu” as the version.
Next, allocate memory to the VM according to your system’s specifications, keeping in mind the recommended minimum for Lubuntu. Create a virtual hard disk for the VM, selecting “VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)” as the hard disk file type. Choose either dynamically allocated or fixed size storage, depending on your preference and available disk space.
Once the VM is created, navigate to its settings and under the “Storage” tab, insert the Lubuntu ISO file into the virtual optical drive. Start the VM, and it will boot from the ISO image, initiating the Lubuntu installation process. Follow the on-screen prompts to configure language, keyboard layout, and installation type. Choose the option to install Lubuntu alongside VirtualBox’s default settings or customize partitions as needed.
After completing the installation, remove the ISO file from the virtual optical drive and restart the VM. You’ll now have Lubuntu successfully installed on VirtualBox, ready to explore its features and functionality. With VirtualBox, users can experiment with different operating systems in a virtual environment, making it an ideal choice for testing and development purposes.
