How to Install Linux Mint on a USB Drive | Full Step-by-Step Bootable USB Guide
Have you ever wondered if it’s possible to install an operating system directly onto a USB drive instead of the internal disk? What would this give you?
Actually, a lot. First of all, you will have a fully functional operating system on the USB stick that you can plug into any computer, using your own settings and pre-installed programs. It will leave no traces on the PC or laptop you’re using, as everything will stay on the USB drive.
Second, you can use it to restore any computer that doesn’t have a drive or has a failed drive, because everything you need is on the USB drive.
Third, if you want to experiment with and learn the Linux Mint operating system without messing with your existing drives and disks, while still keeping all your progress, this method works perfectly.
In this video, I will show you step-by-step how to download the Linux Mint ISO, verify it, flash it onto a USB drive, load Live Boot from the USB drive, and install Linux onto another USB drive.
This will be my most comprehensive installation guide yet, where I’ve tried to cover all common questions and issues raised by viewers in my other Linux Mint videos.

Hi I've having trouble trying to flash a SSD drive using either of those programs. I created a volume with GPT and MBR and can see it fine in win 11 neither of those types of volumes seem to work. I disabled everything in windows defender and ran the apps in admin mode. It doesn't show up as a device in rufus. Balena etcher doesn't allow me to select the target after opening the image file. Is there some other way to image a SSD in Win 11?
