OMG! I can't wait to get the book. Absolutely brilliant concept but I feel the fight against the owners would rival Chelsea away in 83 but ultimately we won!
Well said Kerr old lad! Right with you!
I've always thought the top European teams should leave their domestic leagues and play each other. Leave the remaining domestic teams to have a chance of winning the league. Yes, it will be on reduced income but at least there is a chance of winning a trophy.
Let the glory-seeking fans have their Super League and leave the rest of us to enjoy our domestic competition.
Pre-ordered – fantastic research, insight and presentation Mickey, looking forward to reading in depth – hope your tour extends to Ireland, you'll be fascinated by GAA.
Men, I adore TSB? Plugged me back into my boyhood love of Leeds (70s). Essential listening, always entertaining (laugh out loud at times), with great wit and intelligence. Today's pod can add enlightening to that list. Top drawer work / journalism. Thanks.
Wonderful to see Micky again, and really well thought out/researched ideas. Great podcast, thanks all. MOT
pre ordered – one of the most interesting pods this year
Starmer's government is proper left wing just like the little Austrian
Unreal episode. Big TSB fan, and absolutely loved this
What a fucking great watch, and what a fucking bloke this guy is. Proud to be Leeds. Let’s get the movement moving for him, and for Bielsa. There’s an opportunity to take control of English football, and it starts here at our club. I’ll be preordering.
Could you imagine actually voting for a political party that had this sort of foresight? Absolutely fascinating and look forward to reading your book.
I’m sure that Bielsa would endorse this.
Fantastic episode this, and completely nails how I've been feeling for years.
Legend in talent of a special kind M P K MOT ALAW
Having digested this for a day, I genuinely believe this is one of the most important podcasts I've ever seen. I will be sharing it, telling folk about it and ,if needs be, writing to MPs about it. God bless you Square Ball, god bless you Micky P Kerr and, lastly but by no means least, god bless you football supporters. MOT ALAW
my other fear in chasing big bucks is how may games have been added on with the expansion of international club and national games – in response, the league and FA Cup suffer – research shows most players can perform at max over 35 games in a year – so what kind of product are you producing? again. looking at the usa – the lucrative nfl constantly resist increasing the number of games in a season
politics aside, I agree with this – the only thing is that FIFA have come down against nations where the government have come in to control the game – would FIFA dare to do this with a major nation?
Fucking yes this is exactly what we need! One reason I love watching NFL every year you never know who is good makes it so much better
'Neo-liberalism' is a right wing/far right dog whistle.
I agree with Micky 100 percent which is the maximum percent there is, despite what Jesse Marsch might say
I’ve been thinking about this for years, I blame Manchester United for everything. Back in the day they were the only club with enough money and clout to basically buy the best player at the end of each year. The premier league enabled that to continue for too long but when Chelsea came in and could spend the money it opened the door and there ended their dominance but for me the last top league title to be won in the right way was leeds wilkinson era. Introducing ffp hasn’t worked it’s an attempt to minimise the gap but it needs changing but like I say I don’t see equality working like Micky is suggesting that but I don’t see a downside in liquidating Manchester United and sharing it out amongst the rest of the league
sounds fascinating, copy purchased look forward to it arriving
Where’s the link to pre-order?
Fascinating discussion and definitely worth reading more about. Book Pre-Ordered
I think this is communism. His reference to compulsory purchase of land for public redevelopment is true but it’s a lengthy and expensive process in practice it’s cheaper to just do a private deal at an inflated figure and that is just for land and it has to be justifiable in the public good not just for a specific industry or business. One way or another someone has to pay for it. Communism is not democratic it’s always a disaster. Best recent example is Venezuela which is a smaller country than ours but with some of the highest oil and natural mineral resources in the world. They adopted communism but are virtually bankrupt. I know of no successful example of communism it always ends up as a dictatorship run for useful idiots as Stalin called the public. If you just take all profitable businesses public, international investment stops immediately and we are f*ckd with a cherry on. The history of the premier league is just the result of free market economics which isn’t perfect but the best realistic choice. Read a George Orwell novel ffs. You can say the moon is made of pink shit but it doesn’t make it so. You need to be realistic. Look at what Kier is going to do over 5 years we will be lucky to have roofs over our heads let alone heating and lighting. This guys seems nice and tells a lovely tale of Utopia. Football is ok but they do need to introduce a salary cap like America but it needs to be worldwide and I like the rugby league and the nba models. I think the government can buy Man Utd at a discount of course but it should stop there.
See I’m a dreamer too
