  1. Living close I go on this mine tour when family/friends come to town. Being one of the largest gold producers in the nation the size is mesmerizing. Prayers go out to the families. By reading some of the comments do people realize this is a tourist destination?? Besides gambling there's not much else to do in the area. Rita the troll is pretty cool too. They don't actually mine gold this way anymore. If you look behind the mine shaft you will notice the whole mountain carved out. Why dig a mine shaft when you can dig up the whole thing. I video/drone in the area all the time.

  2. I did it, authentic experience for sure. The ride down was cramped but felt like i was transported back in time. Prayers for the family of the deceased and i hope they can get through this. Interesting how they're being tight lipped about what happened though, as surely some sort of details should be available by now

  3. This story has me considering how weird life is. I was just in Colorado less than a week ago where we declined the offer of a $30 gold mine tour. It sounded fun, but claustrophobic, so we decided against it. This is super scary. I feel so bad for the person who died. These old mines looked like they had old working parts. I was in Argo, totally different mine, but still got goosebumps hearing about this.

  4. I have been in that mine – that elevator was scary (to me) 40 years ago. Thankful everyone is out of there now and condolences to the family of the one that didn't survive.
