Wednesday Yachting Luncheon

Hosted by Ron Young

Speaker: Rodd Kelsey, PhD, California Land Programs Director;
Tom Dempsey, Cal Oceans Prog Dir, The Nature Conservancy

The Nature Conservancy – a 501(c)(3), headquartered in Arlington, Virginia – now has over one million members. Since its founding in 1951, the non-profit’s army of diligent volunteers have protected more than 125,000,000 acres of land and millions of acres of ocean worldwide. Rodd and Tom will share how they have conserved historic coastal properties, like the 24,000-acre ranch at Point Conception and Santa Cruz Island, the largest of California’s Channel Islands. They will review their efforts in Northern California, including preserving Staten Island in the Delta near our own Tinsley Island, advancing aquaculture in partnership with the Hog Island Oyster Company in Tomales Bay and working to recover the North Coast’s endangered kelp forests, 96% of which have disappeared.
