Noob Guide to Installing Linux Mint on 2014 MacBook Air
This process should work on any Intel Mac pre 2018 (without T2 security chip & secure boot). Thanks for the suggestion to install Linux on this old MacBook Air! It has brought new life to this old computer and I am really enjoying getting to know Linux, as I have never really used Linux in this capacity. Let me know if you would like a more in depth video of how I set up my Linux environment!

Excellent video, thank you. I just installed Linux Mint on a MacBook Air. It is now very fast and as smooth as butter. I got the computer for free and $20 shipping. I installed using Vintoy and Grub 2. The Wi-Fi drivers installed automatically.
Thanks for the simple straightforward tutorial.
thanks
@jailbrayk can i setup the os on another pc and then use the flsh card on the mac
Thank you so much, man! I just installed Mint, and it's faster than MacOs. Thanks!
I have installed Ubuntu on my 2011 MacBook Pro and the keyboard and mouse are not working. I have to connect other devices via USB to be able to use the PC. Is there any solution?
If you install linux do you automatically remove mac os? Or do you have to manually remove it?
Thanks for the vid
you loose the mac video codec and 10% of power….
Did the camera work with Linux mint
I can still hear your voice, needs more music!
I have a Apple MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012 Laptop and a Apple Macmini Late 2014 Desktop that has Linux Mint 21.3 O.S. on them and it works great!!.
Installed MINT on a 2010 polycarbonate Macbook. NICE.
I'd love to know how you gave it the Mac OS like look.
just what i needed …i'm going for a old 2012 mac server…
Something key (that's a pun from the end of this comment) you missed is when you boot from USB you have to press alt/option as it's booting for some devices. Or I certainly had to
i have a 2014 Macbook Air and it works very well with Linux Mint. Only thing i have trouble with is the webcam drivers. I had it working momentarily and then it stopped again. Good thing I don't really use the webcam.
Hi there. I tried to install Mint on my MacBook Air 2015 (Intel) ,a1466. Unfortunately when trying to boot from usb I can't do it. Holding down command or option key shows only the mac's gard drive to boot from . No USB is available. I searched the Internet, and I know that I'm not the only one facing this problem. Yet, no solution found. Maybe you know what to do to solve this problem? Any clue?
Does your Macbook run hot? I ran the LM Cinnamon live system on a USB drive on my early 2014 MB Air 11 inch and it felt way hotter than it does running Big Sur. Looking around online, hot running seems to be a problem running LM on MB Airs.
Why downgrade to linux when mojave runs perfect
PLEASE ditch the music. Itβs hard to follow your voice for a tutorial video. Thx βπΌ
Super video. Man I really want to try to put that on my old 2014 MacBook Air but it belongs to the wife who is not as daring as we are.
Mint is nice, as are SO many distributions. I am typing this on a Maestro Evolve loaded with EndevorOS. This a an Arch-based distribution with an update today to the Linux 6.7 kernel. …because latest is greatest. …and actually greatest for WiFi and audio drivers. Worthy of a look!
Try Kububtu 20.04 KDE is more lightweight but modern.
This needs way more attention. Really good Video! Keep going π
