This is Windows Server 2008 build 4066 (4066.main.040226-1010) in VMware Workstation Pro. This is a Milestone 7 build which was compiled on 2004-02-26 and expires on 2004-08-24. This build is quite buggy and unstable, so if you plan on testing this, a lot of patience may be needed as explorer.exe crashes may be common and there may be a lot of waiting when booting and logging into the OS.
How I got this to run:
VMware Workstation Pro 16.2.3
Backwards compatibility set with VMware Workstation 6.5-7.0
OS set to Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
1 GB RAM
1 CPU Core
40 GB SCSI HDD
3D Acceleration Enabled
For drivers, be sure to use VMware Tools 6.5.2 for video and 6.5 for audio and VMCI
For the desksrv.dll patch you can get it off here:
scroll down until you see 4066 and click the link that says “Patched desksrv for 4066” and download it. I recommend putting it into an .ISO image to share it with the guest.
