Mining
Why are thousands of miners refusing to leave? BBC Africa
Dozens of volunteers have entered an abandoned gold mine in South Africa to help what could be thousands of illegal miners who have been underground for a month. The miners have refused to co-operate with the authorities as some are undocumented migrants and fear being deported or arrested. There are reports that the miners have been eating vinegar and toothpaste to survive while underground. The BBCโs Nomsa Maseko is at the site.

Where are the political parties that benefit from illegal immigrants during campaigns?
Is it not criminal negligence by the owner because they left an open hole in the ground? Are they not supposed to blast the opening to seal the hole when they abandoned the mine? Are they criminally negligent or responsible if children fall in and die?

They must Stay there they Stole the Country Bankrupt. Why must the Army go an risk their Lives for Thieves
It's in the name ILLEGAL Mining.
We wont want illegal miners destroying our country they must keep on eating salt that is their choice not our choices
Many african countries are to blame for this mess in South Africa, this country can't take care of Millions of undocumented foreigners and its own Poor masses. Just look at the desperation what can you do in this situation we not uncivilized animals.
Stop the lies. Nobody is starving.
Those criminals are playing games. Anyone with a brain cannot choose toothpaste and vinegar when there's abundance of food in prisons.
Where does all this illegally mined gold end up?
Those community members are beneficiaries of crime and some of those men are actually illegal miners themselves, who just happened to be outside when police started blocking the entrance. The audacity of illegal immigrants to demand help from government is crazy when they are in SA illegal ๐ฎThey must all go to hell. Most of illegal miners are from Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi, then some are South Africans.
Countries have borders for reasons..
Seeing the poverty in SA I Would sooner see a private SA company employing local SA people to re-mine old mines with newer training methods and technology ..
Else .. fill the hole with concrete.. and let's move on ..
…..some infor is missleading, and bbc is very good at causing mass panic , and they forget that if it was south africans doing this in foreign lands, they were not gon come back home alive_
What kind of help who must die for your brothers
President of ZANU pf say nothing about it
The government says they should come out at their own will, relatives want the government to intervaine.
This is what happens when we elect gangsters in higher positions
They will defend & protect criminals at all cost because they are one
Ramaphosa is a real mafia. What do you expect from him, to save us? That won't happen
I think we have to take the law into our own hands, that is the language politicians understand.
This thing of petitions is not working!!!
๐ seems like foreigners have more say in our country than citizens. SA is a joke. These people are heavily armed. And the Government is dead quiet. And some woman (ANC) is cooking, for EVERYONE!
It's the so called "NGOs" screaming human rights and expecting the government to provide food and water to the criminals. The nerve of foreigners in South Africa is mind boggling
They voted for Robert Mugabe. They should be punished very clearly
The ladies cooking for everyoneโคโคโค
We need Home Affairs officials to verify even those who are taking interviews please. We South Africans are tired of illegals doing as they please in our country.
This is savage
They risk being deported, and that's why they stay there . Stop spreading lies…
It very sad that countries like Zimbabwe put people in the situation
