‘We are rescuing criminals here’ – Govt to save illegal miners stuck in NW shaft

A plan has been set in motion to rescue hundreds, if not thousands, of illegal miners at an abandoned shaft in Stilfontein in the North West. The plan comes after local government roped in mining experts and community leaders to find a solution to an impasse between law enforcement and zama zamas underground at the old Buffelsfontein mine.

  1. If minerals are found in your land, they belong to the state we are told, then Ramaphosa n his cronies start mining there. So.who is the state? How do ppl benefit therefrom? We are called criminals for taking a natural resource in our land, yet De beers and other settlers can take as they wish. Shame on u dankie in calling your brothers criminals for harvesting their land.

  2. When they rape our children you people act as if you are affected by their cruelty but now is a chance to let them rot in there you come and tell us that you rescuing them why are we treated like we're the ones who don't belong here๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”this is unfair ๐Ÿ˜ญ

  3. There was never legal mining in South Africa. Wherever mines are operating, the true owners of those lands were forcibly removed, not compensated, and their minerals illegally robbed and stolen from them.

  4. Government should have dealt with this business many moons ago now taxpayers are coughing out the money ……….South Africa our constitution is protecting human rights above all. Having no contingency plan from the government now is costly

  5. The SANCO dude is wanting answers on how these lives will be saved but he ended up correcting himself by saying illegal miners first, then immediately after saying miners. Stop trying to act like you give a $hit. The SAPS guy said it like it is. We are rescuing criminals, there's no better way of saying it. It's only an emergency to those who are benefiting from the illegal activities taking place. Let's not forget about how the one home had a mineshaft running from a bedroom in the house. Don't piss on our backs and tell us it's raining. We know what's happening so, SAPS take your time, there's no pressure from the general public who doesn't have a vested interest.

  6. We are spending resources on criminals, resources that could be better deployed. Communities which have been exploited and plundered by mining are.forced to pay for this. The only consolation is some of the people may have been trafficked into the mine.

  7. These people are human beings!!! The ANC have stolen and plundered SA and continue to do so. These zama zamaโ€™s are starving, move quickly, criminals or not. Save lives. This speaker is disgusting. Save the people. Itโ€™s an emergency.

  8. They are not trapped! While there may be many who have been forced even "kidnapped" by syndicate/s, there are others that went underground willingly, committing a crime. Apparently there is a good chance that they are heavily armed, which will put any rescuers at great risk!๐Ÿ˜ฎ
