Valve Fixes a Steam Deck Problem

Steam Deck grows Linux for everybody! Valve unbricks Steam Decks! New weird accessory!

Besides using the X300G to game with my friends, I’ve also enjoyed some solo gaming on an 80-inch screen. That level of immersion is incredible!

  1. I just saw this morning that there's a Humble Bundle for like $30 and it has 12 games, and a bunch of them are actually collections of the game series… Street Fighter 5 and a collection stood out to me, but I really can remember what other ones were on there, but I was seriously impressed by the value… worth going over there and browsing to find it… if I had the money to get it I sure would 🙂
    – Deck Gang Out 😀

  2. I wish Valve would fix the Steam Deck’s driver error that causes it not to sign its HDMI out signal as Full RGB, or add an option to force the Deck to output Limited RGB.

This is particularly frustrating since it does send the correct signal signature for 16:10 signals, but not for 16:9.

This affects all docks (official and third party) and all external monitors. Only those external displays that are either locked to Full RGB, or can be locked to Full RGB, work correctly with the Deck.

  3. My laptop died this weekend and I've been working with the steamdeck on desktop mode. It has been behaving like a champ! One week using it and nothing has crashed nor slowed down.

    Linux ROCKS!

  4. They need to fix the problem of not being able to buy the limited edition version. I know several people that would buy one. If I pay that much I would want the better looking one.

  5. I definitely want more native ports, that's not gonna change. Proton is neat, but should still be a last resort, IMO. Supporting native games is still important. This situation shows the utility of having two ways to play (the opposite case could've happened) and the value of not putting all your eggs in one basket. Hopefully the bug in the game gets fixed. Valve themselves once had a bug in Steam that deleted people's home folders, in the pre-Deck days.

  6. i am over with steam ! 🙁 they stolen my accoount – and nobody will help you to becom them bak until you go to the justiz. i giv all of you a good advice ! dont go to steam ! if somting is wrong or you loosing your old phone number with 2 factor autentication you wil haf a loot problem with steam. my account is gone and all my saved gamefiles 400 dollars off games. tats steam.

  7. Jackbox Launcher bricking SteamDecks: that stinks of a windows developer not paying proper attention to *nix file permissions and hierarchies. Don't chmod 777 *, folks!

  8. Ew, Windows on Deck

I think devs should continue to primarily target Windows until a large enough Linux-player base exists, just to maximize profits, to justify porting it, though I do enjoy native builds –when they work.

  9. Uhm – It would be better if they made a new back plate for the deck that added an extended battery and M.2 storage so you don't have another dongle to carry.
TBH I just want Valve to get off their ass and get out a new VR headset. Hopfully Standalone like a Quest but unlike the quest can still hook to a GPU wired for a direct passthrough using that PC.
Come to think of it something is going on – Meta is transitioning to steam storefront, let me make a prediction.
HMD updated basically Quest 4 with Valve branding co released product
So – Higher resolution, Pancake Bi convex lenses, Wifi 7/DP type C passthrough video in, Meta Camera tracking hybrid system that can also be tracked by the laser tracking.
New Controllers part valve index part Meta
New steam store specifically for Meta and Valve Android Game Storefront similar to how Steam deck works but can also do the Steam deck emulation thing for low end VR titles that aren't intensive.
I can see this happening just to minimize costs and because at this point innovation and a niche market it isn't wise to compete to split up the community.
Also on a side note, Because the industry is billions to trillions and Steam does allow "Spicy Games" it allows that specific market to have access to adults allowing innovations in that area as well, it is difficult when they fragment the industry so much and increases dev. time.

  10. I'd like to highlight that I've found the most optimal way to run the Forza Horizon games at their best-looking settings, especially with the new updates and Proton Experimental improvements:

-Disabled Frame limit, screen set to 60hz,
-All settings set to On and/or High, and not higher than that.
    -Capped in-game at 30.
-For Horizon 5 specifically, CryoUtilities is best recommended because the game runs best with an abundance of Swap Memory available due to it's very large scale in comparison to 4, regardless of what you run it on.

And Presto. You've got the Xbox Series X "Quality" experience all set up.

  11. Lmaooo the Jackbox Party Picker OS crash literally happened to me and I thought the issue was entirely unrelated. I'm so glad Valve made reinstallation so easy, I didn't even lose any data.

  12. In regards to Linux native versions, if developers use SteamOS as model and have it as the main support focus (I. E, avoiding one of the common complaints about the so called "fragmentation").

I'm all for native fully customized/optimized for Deck games than Windows games ran over compatibility layers. Given tough optimization is possible at compiler level for Linux binaries, it would be interesting to see Deck "optimized" games.

  13. "Proton makes it unnecessary to make a native Linux build."

And Windows Subsystem For Linux makes it unnecessary to make a native Windows build. Not a good argument.
