Unrealistic Expectations – Windows Updates on Ryzen 9000
The Ryzen 9000 series benchmarks weren’t the greatest but now there’s a promised Windows Update (24H2) along with a new Optional Update for 23H2 that is supposed to change everything…again. We tested this and realized there were some serious problems with a clean install of 24H2 if we compared it to an identical 23H2 setup. And that caused us to have some very unrealistic expectations about these CPUs and what the update can achieve.

Why do you make videos when you have no idea what you’re talking about
Windows 11 was built for Intel's 13th and 14th gen CPUs. It's a garbage OS. It ran like shit on the then current AMD hardware. It's still shite. I'm still on 3600 and 5600 x CPUs and running Windows 10. I'm not going anywhere near Windows 11. I had to support it at work and it's gawd-awful, just like the Intel products it was built for.
AMD insist we need to believe them "that" Ryzen 9000 is far way better in every aspect, well actually . . . no
So what's the fastest for single-core performance post-update? 7800x3D, or something else?
Intel mode activated.
very detailed investigation
While there definitely have been hits to AMD's rep from all this, Intel still has self destructing CPUs and handled it so poorly that it would be virtually impossible for AMD to dig its way down to where Intel is. Yeah it sucks, but it could be worse.
This is not more performance in a update free for the CPU , THIS IS THE SPECTED PERFORMANCE PERFORMANCE IT SHOULD HAVE WINDOWS 11 OR MORE COMPARED TO WINDOWS 10😒
does this affect win 10 at all?
no eng mem intrgty on good or off good ?
Thank you guys! This is real journalism, not just tech coverage.
Great content, Mike! You guys are the first outlet talking about this optional update and the silent disabling of Memory Integrity. Good job!
It's almost as if Intel paid MS to sandbag the Ryzen's performance because they new they had shit processors and internal rusting issues !!
Not everyone is a gamer. Some people care about productivity. 90% of reviews come from gamers. It is frustrating.
I only watch for this guy. I dont care about the other guy and his "enthusiast" oversized "full" tower cases.
I expected bigger difference so not rushing with update from win 10 to win 11 for now.
A lot of people would like to see ryzen 5000, with win 10 included.
Still using windows 10 with my PC and Laptop, no nonsense experimental crap cause performance by windows
Next fan roundup when?
Look like AMD internal politics is a lot more serious than anyone would have guessed.
Should I upgrade my 8700k?
Thanks for the video. HUB always turns this off manually in win11, and found 10% perf uplift in their 40+ benchmark in 24h2. Will be interesting to see what you find after even more testing. But def. prob. many reviewers who doesn't touch this setting, and get even more gains,so thanks for the heads up.
Whatever the change is in 24H2 it's not some new branch prediction algorithm because that is not how this works at all. For your code (aka the games and applications that you run) to benefit from it they would have to be recompiled with zen5 optimizations enabled. Much more likely is that these is some residue from the Spectre mitigations that affected the branch predictor (possible due to extensive flushing) on context switches.
New branch prediction you say? I'm sure that won't come back to bite us in the ass.
same old story.. people blame h/w for small gain.. the root cause for most performance issue is poor OS or app… lazy codes, performance is traded for cross platform efficiency. now MS has ONE MORE platform to manage… ARM! so imagine the MS developer balancing the 3 different CPU architecture. gamers has been benchmarking on a handicapped OS. dumb ass to need fresh install for best performance… AMD has to play nice with MS as a major partner. AMD gave linux patches for the new CPU, probably did the same for MS… but it's up to MS to add them in.
At AMD, AI and EPYC are making gaming and desktop into the redheaded step child.
"You wouldn't download more frames!!" … Like hell I would
Lol, but what about win 10?? Must be better then 11 win anyway😂😂
I want a review on how it effects ryzen APUs going back to the 5000 series. (Please 😊)
Why are you talking so much about AMD when everything is about Microsoft…?
Finally we are back to windows 10 performance 😅
Why not also test 23H2 with KB5041587 AND disable Mem. Integrity (I know its on by default but you should still be able to disable it).
now backport it to windows 10 thanks
Can you compare it with Windows 10?
I wish someone would finally include Win 10 in those tests.
50.16% of PCs on Steam are still on Win 10.
Overall Win 10's market share is still 68%.
Common guys, more than half of gamers want to know.
Canada vs Australia, 1-0 to the Canadians!
Hardware unboxed test always with VBS off. And they measured sometimes even 20-30% in non GPU-bounded situations.
O Zen 2/1 não será atualizado porque não é mais vendido nas lojas ou porque não há realmente nada para otimizar?
No 23h2 with memint off for the 2 different patch levels? Great work on showing the various results from the different builds of windows.
Bro has a forehead crease like _____
Good catch on the VBS setting
I would like to know the performance of Intel CPU with Windows 23H2 and KB5041587 installed.
Win 10, could be interesting, can it be improved? for zen 3, 4, and 5?
So HUB missed this?
but boost on Intel is not so high as on AMD Ryzen overall (of course, some games who favourites Intel, yes). Intel is trash due many, many issues and crazy power consumption (not because performance). There is still not real official fix, so I agree with Steve.
Amd has needed to clean house in their marketing department going back to the early Ryzen days. Almost every single launch they do something stupid to hurt the company's reputation.
I really can download more memory now???
