Trump vs Kamala – How Political Economy Works | Mike Brock x Peter McCormack

Mike Brock is a political commentator, writer, and former executive.

In this episode, we explore the dynamics of power politics versus distributive politics, the transformation of the Republican Party under Trump, and the struggle to uphold liberal values in a rapidly changing political climate. We dive into the role of economic incentives in shaping political actions, examine government corruption, and analyze the escalating U.S.-China economic rivalry. Additionally, we discuss how media influences public perception and why Mike sees the centre-left as perhaps the last hope for sustaining capitalism.

  1. It is disgusting to watch this guy spitting shit about republicans without a bit of critical thinking about democrats. Additionally, he is not finishing 50% of sentences he tries to elaborate. "Most of my republicans friends agree with me on everything". "I am a liberal conservative"….Poor intelectual material you have inside imo. Peter McCormack, i am spanish and follow the elections in USA…and this guy you brought is delusional, but you did not have the guts to disagree in none of the nonsense he shouted. Worst chapter ever man. Congratulations for the rest in any case.

  2. Let's get this straight:
    1. Both parties and their candidates and their media backers have lied profusely.
    2. Both parties print money ~ aka: are fiscally irresponsible historically…neither has proven a better track record regardless of what they say
    3. Trump is sometimes completely nuts (and gets away with it), Kamala and Biden are puppets for the democratic establishment
    4. Fact check: yes, reported wage growth is just about keeping with inflation in the US (2023-2024) but I think what Peter's getting at is that purchasing power was horribly damaged by covid and will continue to decline…lots of mental gymnastics for Mike to think the lowest quartile is doing better than ever…
    5. There's inherent bias from both speakers in this episode for the candidate they're leaning towards. Mike is giving Biden/Harris some passes and Peter is giving Trump some passes as well (which was honestly disappointing)

Agreed with other comments down there that the earlier part of the conversation was more productive when Mike was speaking more broadly and philosophically. Welcome the another perspective that we don't often hear from most guests, whether we agree or not, it's good to solidify your own views by listening to opposing views.

  3. Pete. love ur shows but… this guy is not a classical liberal. he is a super far leftist. and believes big government is the answer to all our issues. he's wrong. traditional liberalism is small government.

  4. "My side good, other side bad"

No point of having a conversation with a dude who cant see a single bad thing on their own side. This guy is just way too deep in the culture war. Was a very hard listen cause this guy is just delusional.

  5. Peter is subcumbing to cynicism? It is possible to vote, not for the best side, but for the least damaging. There are differences, if everything becomes the same, there is no hope.
