Tourists Rescued From Gold Mine After Fatal Accident

An investigation is underway to determine what caused a tour guide to die and 23 others to be trapped after authorities say an elevator suffered a mechanical problem. The incident happened at Colorado’s Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine. During the rescue mission, trapped tourists were pulled to safety after they were stuck at the halfway point down the elevator shaft. Twelve other people were rescued after being stuck at the bottom of the mine for six hours.

  1. Iโ€™ve done this tour myself several times, and there was no indication of anything wrong, but the last time I have been there was a few years ago. The elevator uses wooden guides to keep the elevator in line on the way down, and wood I just inherently not going to stay straight, and thus the bumpy ride, so that is totally expected. They also have a backup motor to get the elevator back up in case of a power outage, it an old v8. I wouldโ€™ve thought that there must be some sort of fall prevention.

  2. All due respect to the sheriff, but that town, and maybe even the county, both depend on the mine's tourist draw for their survival. Can he be counted on to do a thorough investigation? In the press conference he held he came across, to me anyway, as though he was already defending the mine owners. What qualifies him to investigate a mine accident? I hope state or federal mine officials step in before anybody has an opportunity to tamper with the evidence. And I sure hope the kid's family gets a good lawyer. An out-of-town lawyer.

  3. COME ON MAN oh brother always find some one that gots nothing but complaints most likely a kamalala ding dong voter to, been down that mine often and was always the same year after year , wear and tear does happen when it does someone pays sadly but for these geeks to get on and complain just for the sheer media is what it is these days FAKE ASS PEOPLE with a fake agenda

  4. Geez..in 109 years that mine has only had 2 accidents…think about that people before those that do jump to judgements! This mine produced gold from 1891 until 1961 and still could to this day and well beyond!!!…This Mine is a National Treasure and should be considered a PRIVATE Historic Landmark,so there is no Frderal Government Interference ๐Ÿ˜‰
