This is a story about how creative thinking can put together a cool, useful little project… but also about how a cool, useful little project can eventually die off because of a lack of other necessary skills…
EXTRA CREDIT:
– This particular unit is a Protectli Vault FW6D. The 2.5″ SSD was added to provide extra storage for particularly large virtual servers–the mSATA SSD should have been able to handle most virtual servers on its own.
– The “license” for Hyper-V Server was actually implemented as an evaluation license with a really, really long time until expiry! I think when I originally checked, it was something like 10,000 days (or a bit over 27 years!).
