  1. I actually began this video BEFORE the gnome video. I knew there was a lot to talk about with Netflix and thought I could do the gnome video quicker (I was wrong, opps). I've essentially been dual wielding these two videos for months, going down a rabbit hole of netflix drama, Whilst also dealing with real life stuff.
This is my longest video so far. Needless to say, I understand Netflix a lot more now, I hope you will too after watching this.❤

  2. The vibes are definitely different these past couple of years, makes total sense that it’s down to the corporate change in personnel simply to serve shareholders profit expectations. Netflix has sold out basically, it’s gone all quantity over quality, there’s so little innovation unlike the early days, it has noticeably taken a very glossy and artificial direction, as well as promoting very mainstream so called A list celebs such as Joe Rogan, Ellen, Beckhams and it all just reeks of narcissistic self indulgence which no doubt comes from those leading behind the scenes. I no longer browse with any optimism but more with a sense of just finding something remotely watchable and usually just end up re-watching Schitts Creek before then switching over to youtube for some actual originality.

  3. my personal list of shows i liked that were cancelled by netflix way too soon, most of them having a cliffhanger ending:
    Julie and the Phantoms.
    Teenage Bounty Hunters.
    Lockwood&Co.
    Dirk Gently's hollistic detective agency.
    Shadow&Bone.
    big pretender
I probably missed a show lol
Why do I still have a netflix subscription? Because i can watch all of old star trek and i hate paramount+. Oh, and i watched twilight a few weeks ago lol

  4. i heard through the grapevine that the reason they cancel shows is because they get a tax writeoff before the next financial quarter if they mark an in-dev show as a writeoff, and that the reason pricing keeps going up is because the physical cost of streaming infrastructure and liscencing agreements means that there are not enough wealthy people on earth for an 8 dollar modal to be successful

  5. Another thing is that all these services are fundamentally the same. The UI, the cost, the experience. There isn’t really be any reason for things to be segregated like this. The system devised is purely the most cynical way to get the most money out of the customer. 👍

  6. I quit netflix when they started throwing money at transphobic celebrities. We were paying at least $20 CAD per month to fund lazy, bigoted hack comedians, while they canceled good shows like sense8 and the OA. It felt like it just wasn't worth it.

  7. Pretty sure there was a character Called Max on Netflix that would help you Pick movies to Watch through like a cutesy quiz? I used to love that feature back in the early days of Netflix- Now i’m only on it when a new season of something I Watch drop or on the off chance that a good show gets released

  8. Thank you for doing this deep dive, it's a fascinating breakdown of Netflix's business practices and slow downfall. Thank you especially for mentioning Dead Boy Detectives. It's a fantastic show, and season 1 is well worth a watch for all the reasons called out in the quoted tweets and more. There's currently a push to get it renewed, so please give it a watch; it's a wild, chaotic ride from start to finish.

  9. all capitalist industries buy into and push the myth of endless growth. eventually, they all become hostile to the customer. microsoft game pass is a good example of this.

  10. WOW i can't believe you included Baz Luhrmann's The Get Down as one of the early Netflix originals that was cancelled too soon! That cancellation truly devastated me, I still believe that show was the best thing Netflix ever made.

  11. My husband and I put on Insatiable, and the current trailer for it had NOTHING about the formerly fat part of the storyline. When she showed up in the fat suit and got punched I said, "what is her jaw gonna get wired shut so that's how she loses weight?" trying to think of the laziest writing I could.

Probably not going back to that show.

  12. Piracy is alive and well. I was gonna cancel netflix after they implemented the password sharing ban. Decided to try 1m of the ad tier. Discovered you can't watch Arrested Development on that tier, a show they literally bought and made more seasons. of. Cancelled entirely and just spent an hour getting torrents of netflix shows and putting them on an HDD and hooked it up to my tv.

  13. I got rid of my Netflix account when I realized that I only had it to have access to basically two shows, and they both got cancelled after one season (rip Inside Job and Cuphead).

  14. I'm still SO mad they haven't added playlists to streaming services. Let me add all my favorite Halloween episodes and movies to a list and hit shuffle. Or my favorite sitcoms, Christmas stuff, etc. How is this still not a thing??? It's so obvious
