The task team established to fight illegal mining, Operation Vala Umgodi says they are dealing with skilled illegal miners who know how to evade arrests in the Mopani district in Limpopo.
Task team leader in the Mopani district, Captain Siddy Mathebula says more reinforcement is needed for their operations to succeed.
The team conducted an operation to search for illegal miners at the closed Modipa gold mine in Gravelotte outside Tzaneen today.
The task team has identified 12 abandoned mines in Mopani and Vhembe Districts.
