Half the jobs that Dave did to break in don’t really exist anymore. That Hasbro gig would be done by AI today. I really don’t understand artists – especially un-established artists that go to the mat for generative AI
Love Dave's work!
Legendary work. This will be a treat to listen to. Thank you Perch and thank you to Dave!
What manga is Mr. Dorman reading?
LOVE that he combine oil and acrylics 'cause no one told him that wasn't possible.
I met Dave Dorman at a comic convention in Atlanta in 1995. Had him sign a couple Star Wars books and still have them today. He is the only comic book artist that I've met and had sign something in person, and he's been a big inspiration in my collecting and personal artwork.
Dorman also did a cover for Douglas Ernst’s Soul Finder:Demon Match. I got that book. The art is beautiful. Too bad it was in the fire. I have to get a new copy now.
Really great interview, loved it.
I'm currently writing an email to Perch that's my head canon that Yoda is more like Happosai then you think.
And the explains why Yoda actually died in Return of the Jedi
He’s lucky he turned down that commission for the actor with the animal body, because if he did one he’d get flooded with other ones. Once the furries get wind of your work you end up getting hounded by them.
I heard of one artist who used to just draw cute characters & then did a commission for a furry, within 2 months they had a furry pfp, calling themselves they/them and nothing but furry corn everywhere.
Love these interviews, great hearing about these artists different work.
YEEEEEEEEAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Muppet A L: "Dave Dorman? Fifteen seconds to curtain, Mister Dorman!"
Muppet Drew: "Hey, do you have time to draw me a quick cover?"
Actual Dave: "Fifteen seconds isn't a lot of time to draw a cover."
(Canned laughing)
Muppet Drew: "This one's easy."
Actual Dave: "What's that?"
Muppet Drew: "Just draw Perch's channel with the word 'CANCELLED' on it."
(More canned laughing)
Muppet Perch: "It's Comics by Perch, with our very special guest, Mister Dave Dorman! YAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!"
The man's art embodies 90's Star Wars
