some people are asking me about Orbot in VPN mode. Using Orbot does NOT connect you to a VPN separate from the Tor network, it treats the Tor network like a VPN in the sense that it routes all traffic through Tor (Browser, message apps, games, etc) like a VPN app would, very similar to how TAILSOS routes all of its traffic through Tor.

To simplify instead of your network connection traveling to multiple nodes, it will instead become a single node, so don't use TOR in conjunction with a VPN.

A lot of reasonable points but nothing addressed my concern, which is the reports I've seen suggesting a large portion of the Tor nodes are run by govt agencies. If that's true, there's a good chance you get a connection through 3 nodes owned by the feds and it's game over. Going through a VPN first gives them one more hurdle than usual: deanonymizing the VPN. Even if it's a bad VPN, it's at least something. And there are good VPNs. Mine doesn't know who I am at all. The best it has is my IP address. I'd rather the feds face a VPN at the other end of Tor than my ISP. Both have my IP address, but my ISP knows way more and will sell me out in a heartbeat.
That said, I've never felt the need to actually do this, lol. I've just pondered the theory over the years.

Granted I dont know alot.. But a VPN tunnel goes from you to the VPN outpost. Secures teh connection encrpyts the tunnel. So only on the outpost would it reveal its a TOR.

It's kind of crazy to listen to you infer that using tor with 3 hops is good, but adding a fourth means you're doing something bad and it doesn't help.
