There are growing calls for efforts to retrieve illegal miners from shaft 11 at an abandoned mine in Stilfontein in the North West, to be expedited, to avoid deaths underground.
Police arrested some of the illegal miners when they resurfaced in the past weeks. It’s not clear how many remain underground.
