Silly Linux mistake exposes a terabyte of secret Pokémon data



Game Freak, the developer behind your favorite Pokémon games, got hacked. A terabyte of data was leaked on internet, including employee data, source code for past games and the code name for Nintendo Switch 2.

  1. I don’t understand the leak at all. How is a 777 file with credentials in a gitlab ci a problem? That means the attacker has to have access to see the pipeline logs and probably even access to write to the repo to be able to access the file contents? Was that an employee? Was that a public repo? What am I missing here?

  2. the typhlosion thing is just a classic folklore tale trope. look at zeus / loki turning into animals and sleeping with women in western mythology. I wish people wouldn't be so weird about it

  3. i dont really like how nintendo doing business, but i get the reason why nintendo suing yuzu and ryujinx, bcuz switch are still in active state. imagine PS5 emulator exist rn, sony would be mad and suing that emulator
