Changes to Shooting Stars in Old School RuneScape” 🌠🪙

Good day, class! My name is Pro, and I will be your teacher. Today, we’ll be discussing some changes to Shooting Stars in Old School RuneScape. Let’s break it down step by step.

1. Goals of the Changes:
The game developers have a few goals with these changes:

Improve server performance.
Make sure other Mining methods still have a place in the game.
Keep Shooting Stars a communal activity where working together is encouraged.
Maintain low-intensity gameplay but encourage players to interact with the game more frequently.
Focus on XP gains, reducing the importance of items and rewards.
Adjust XP to match your Mining level better.
2. Changes to Star Degradation:
Changes are coming to star degradation. In the past, stars of different sizes had varying durations, Mining success chances, and XP drops. To make it fair for everyone, star degradation will become consistent, meaning all sizes will last for 7 minutes before moving to the next. Basically, you will have 7 minutes of AFK time before clicking again.

3. Changes to Star Landing:
Stars used to drop in waves every 128 minutes, leading to a lot of waiting around. This will be improved by reducing the total time of a ‘star landing wave’ to 90 minutes. Stars will now spawn between sizes 6 and 9. This will make it easier for players to move between worlds and spread out across the game. With this change, stars will never fall below a level 6 star, and the time between waves of shooting stars will be 90 minutes instead of 128 minutes.

How it helps:

With quicker star degradation and reduced downtime, players can move between worlds to keep mining.
More stars over the course of a day, meaning players will spread out more.
‘Minimum’ star size ensures stars last more consistently on each world.
Higher Mining levels prove more beneficial, as you can interact with all new stars as long as your Mining level is above 60.
4. Changes to Star Mining XP and Rewards:
It was noticed that it was better to mine lower-sized stars, as they allowed for more AFK time and were more appealing for stardust. With the changes, each star size will have the same success chance and XP drops. Success chance will now scale with your Mining level, making a higher Mining level more beneficial, starting at 29% at Level 1 and scaling up to 46% at Level 99 Mining. The XP per dust obtained will be changed to 1/32 across all sizes, slightly changing XP/hr from around 22k XP/hr to 32k XP/hr at higher Mining levels with better pickaxes. This adjustment will reduce stardust gains and increase item costs in the Star Shop to balance the change.

5. Miscellaneous Changes:

Stars in Prifddinas will no longer give crystal shards.
Random events and Dwarf multicannons will be disabled in the areas around active stars to improve client performance.
In summary, these changes aim to make Shooting Stars better for everyone. No star size will be favored, and players will spread out more. The gameplay will become more understandable, and the game developers will have an easier time balancing it. Shooting Stars will remain a communal activity for those seeking low-intensity Mining XP.

To recap:

A size 9 star will last 63 minutes before degrading entirely at 7 minutes per degradation.
Stars will land in waves of 90 minutes, down from 128 minutes.
Stars will land between size 6 and 9.
Star mining success chance and XP no longer vary with tier. Success chance scales from 29% at Level 1 to 46% at Level 99. XP per dust is 32 at all sizes, meaning XP per hour scales from roughly 22k to 32k.
As a result of the above, the amount of stardust obtained per hour will now scale from around 600 to 1,000. In addition, the costs of items in Dusuri’s Star Shop will be doubled.
Stars in Prifddinas no longer provide crystal shards when mined.
Random events and Dwarf multicannons will be disabled in the areas around active stars.
