Serbia: Protests against lithium mining | DW News



Serbia has huge deposits of lithium. It’s an important resource for the production of modern batteries, such as those used in electric vehicles. Still, the local population is up in arms about a planned, large-scale mining project there.

  1. if somebody is telling to you it's 100% safe … there is 0 honesty in it. They should present their other lithium plants in the world. Thousands of tons of chemicals daily and breathtaking amount of water is needed to extract and process lithium. That is the reason other countries (like Czechia or Ukraine) given up on their lithium deposits.

  2. Lithium mining is just a political game in Serbia for the opposition to get the throne, as soon as they're in power they will allow lithium mining, politicians in Serbia didn't change much in last 20 years, they are just using what is at disposal to fight the current government, btw the first "farmer" is a known spokesperson for the opposition in the lithium mining case.
