I've original Ally z1 extreme, I would jump to a new one next year if there is a z2 extreme + 890M + 24/32 GB Ram. I hope Lenovo or Asus will supply me with a device with those features
10-15% not worth it to me
how about the much lower tdp performances as per z2’s selling point according to AMD? Are we likely to get steamdeck like low tdp performance at 5-7watts @eta prime
I knew this was coming there was no way they were going to get the 890m working in a super wattage constrained device to its fullest and so it didn't make sense to use that but inside laptops it's another story. If only they would give these handhelds better cooling and a docked high wattage mode!!!
We need 3d cache cpus to boost the igpu more
I'm I'm going to buy soemthing like this it just needs to have an oled screen
15% is a joke 😅 , snapdragon 8 elite on a tablet would be sweet
I'm happy with my current Steam Deck ( OG ) and my Legion Go, Along with my Switch ( OG ) I think if ppl upgrade to OLEDs that's cool, but after the Steam Deck I no longer expect to play AAA games at 4k ultra on handhelds, they get close enough though, Steam Deck showed me to play older and Indie games to find the sweet spot, or AAA with lower settings etc. otherwise ID be chasing the golden dragon of handhelds, and that'll never happen, AAA will always be 1 step ahead of consoles, 2 or 3 steps ahead of handhelds, I will wait till Z3 , then at least Id have gotten actual use out these devices, my Legion Go and even OG Deck are too new to sell at a loss or just have 5 handhelds that do the same thing, even new buyers will never have a device capable of AAA ultra 4k…be happy with what's supported and works 4 you
Valve end goal is to make the entire current gen library playable (upto the end of ps5 gen) so they would wait for a bigger jump
I already have a z1 extreme base rog ally . And i am not impressed with these leaks . These are not generational leaps.
This will make the Z1 Extreme go down in price and I can actually buy one.
The configuration of 4 ddr channels on steam deck with a 16cu rdna3.5 would be an almost doubling of gaming performance ver the original steamdeck. That will be the point that it can actually get 1080p 60 in any game with reasonable settings. Perhaps we will see a zen5 rdna4 16cu version within a year. It needs v cache or 4 ddr channels to keep from being ram limited.
I stay with the current steam deck is not worth the upgrade
The 16CU variant is NOT cancelled. You even showed the post where the leaker said this. Only the name Z2 Extreme X was cancelled confusing him.
Hopefully AMD abandoned the Z2EX in favor of the 20-40CU Strix Halo chips.
Strix Halo has that 8 channel memory for console like RAM bandwidth, power draw on those is rumored to be fairly high but if Asus and Lenovo standardize on 80Wh+ battery then you're still getting at least two hours out of a 40Wh TDP.
Strix Halo will be going into laptops so it's not like this will be restricted to desktop components, hopefully the handheld makers have some cojones and smash the big fat chips into their handheld line.
Plz bring the z2 extreme x to market asus
My big question is will the next Steam Deck match or be similar?
Before the Switch 2 can even get underway, the hype within the handheld community has already shifted to Steam Deck 2 and other handheld PC's.
I can’t understand the move: the 370 is already a small step above the Z1E (15-30%), if the Z2E is a cutdown version from the 365…it’ll be marginally better than the Z1E. If the leaks prove to be right, the Z2E will be 10-15% better than the Z1E. So if a game runs at 25 fps , 28 fps with the Z2E is very slim. I would expect the 370 GPU performance with a little bit inferior multicore CPU performance
I have the Ally X Z1 Extreme, just got it this year for my birthday, its a beast of a handheld especially emulation. I'll be waiting for like Z3 or Z4 before I upgrade.
The 16CU version was not cancelled, the name extreme X was. the extreme now is the 16cu version
15% is not going to make a difference, it won't make non-playable now playable, and to be honest, 6 CPU cores with HT disabled is all the CPU power these handhelds need, but they do need more CU's more ram, and the fastest ram possible to really make a difference, also 1080p is the max the screens should have, anything more just chews power.
I use an eGPU on the ROX, honestly, I'm not worried about the next models.
I am personally waiting for panther lake with its 12 Xe cores . I guess that would be on the third version of the MSI claw.
Probally skipping this next gen. Doesn't seem like enough of an upgrade for me.
