Rufus and Windows 11 – 24H2

Now that Windows 11 – 24H2 is available, I take another look at Rufus to see if it is still possibe to install the newest version of Windows 11 on unsupported hardware.

Rufus, isn’t just about getting Windows 11 on to unsupported hardware though, there are a couple of other good reasons why you might want to use Rufus to install Windows 11 even if your hardware does meet the minimum requirements.

In this video, I attempt a clean install to install a fresh copy of Windows 11 but also try an In-Place upgrade from Windows 10.

As of version 24H2, anyone who wants to carry out an In-Place upgrade onto unsupported hardware will first need to run the two commands below to modify the registry to allow the installation to begin.

Open a command prompt (Run as Administrator), then copy and paste both the commands below.
Then run the Windows 11 Setup application as normal.

reg.exe add “HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionAppCompatFlagsHwReqChk” /f /v HwReqChkVars /t REG_MULTI_SZ /s , /d “SQ_SecureBootCapable=TRUE,SQ_SecureBootEnabled=TRUE,SQ_TpmVersion=2,SQ_RamMB=8192,”

reg.exe add “HKLMSYSTEMSetupMoSetup” /f /v AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU /t REG_DWORD /d 1

  1. If you finished building your pc, don't install 24h2. Instead install Windows 10

If you already have windows 11 23h2, don't upgrade to 24h2

Microsoft has installed recall on every pc, regardless of they're copilot+ or not

  2. Great Video. I would also point out that Rufus 4.5 is sufficient for Windows 11 24H2. You do not have to use the beta version 4.6. I would not use the option “Create local account with username” … in Rufus. Without this option, the USB stick can be used for completely different PCs or people. The additional question about the user name during installation is not really a problem.

  3. Guys bypassing Microsoft account is easy without rufus

When windows ask you to connect to the internet just use shit + f10

    Enter

    oobebypassnro

    And it will restart

And it will not ask you about internet or Microsoft account

  4. Not mentioned in the video but worth noting: option 2 will not work if the PC is connected to a network via ethernet so unplug the cable before you start the installation.

  5. You can bypass and use local account without Rufus. I had to recently because on a brand new PC I built there was no Wi-Fi driver to connect to my Microsoft account. I had to install windows without internet then put a Wi-Fi driver on the usb drive and copy it over to the new machine fully complete. There are instructions on YouTube. But this seems to be a great easy way to bypass. I also have a PC that did not meet the cpu requirements for upgrade and followed some other instructions to bypass the checks. But this would have been easier.

  7. Great info. Avoiding microsoft online account part is particular important.
For now, if I really need to use windows, I would buy new hardward and create only Local account.

If I really want to use my old hardware, I will install Linux.

  8. Well Doc I am not sure how this works But I did find out watz up for me. Rufus does wipe the disk but if you ant to use drivers on the usb you are making you can if you use depending on the pr programs you want to. but on that USB size I use a 32 gb drive and have no problems adding file with my drivers on it and my fav browser and even my Start 11 program. yOU CAN PUT AS MANY PROGRAMS YOU WANT ON THE DRIVE ACCODRING TO THE SIZE OF THE DRIVE YOU USE. It works like you would wantt it to. This really helped me save time.
