They already have google protect.
And apps takes long time to drops support on an older android version
On top of that individual apps drops each android version at a time.
Not all apps at once like Apple.
Who needs the updates anyway ? Its not the like phones will just stop working after they stop updating it like that phone will be just fine for another two years without a single update.

Google is really fucking up custom ROM community with play integrity, keybox attestations.
Samsungs got a habit of cutting off updates for good devices. the Galaxy S6, S7, S8 and S9 could all easily have gotten another update, and my S10e has no reason to be stuck on android 12 – with a march 2023 security update.

There is actually a similar issue with high end motherboards. The userbase is tiny so the manufacturers focus on the mid tier boards first and the really expensive ones get updates much later, if at all.
