I don’t game much, but when I do, here are 5 things that I’ve found incredibly useful to optimise Linux Mint for casual gaming.

  1. What’s the best linux for an inexperienced user transitioning from windows but also for not getting screen tearing (compatibility) when playing video like games or YouTube etc if I’m using nvidia graphics cards like GeForce GTX 970 (2014 era card?) and also a laptop with gforce gtx 850m (2014 era laptop)?
I tried linux a few yrs ago but couldn’t figure out how to stop the screen tearing so it was a deal breaker
I found that Ubuntu Mate had a setting in its tweak tool which fixed my tearing issues perfectly (a compositor?) but ubuntu mate was too glitchy and had bad fails so I just gave up…
Hoping things have improved? Mint looks the closest to windows

  2. I’m playing a few steam games on my 2012 Mac mini running Linux mint xfce. Linux Mint and Ubuntu gnome are the best for windows and Mac users who switch to Linux. Why? Because both windows and Mac have app stores. Software center is the Linux version of that. Plus the Ubuntu software center is very nicely designed. And is the best I’ve seen in Linux. Recommending arch or Debian or other Linux distros to beginners is setting them up to have a rough time with Linux and less likely to switch over to Linux. I’ve crashed arch every distro I’ve tried. Debian stable I’ve had issues with apps and things not working properly.

  3. If anyone can give me a tip on getting an xbox one controller to work in steam on Linux that actually works, I'll consider switching. Until then, it's dual boot.

  4. I play Tanki Online MMO and was getting 60fps using Google Chrome with 2 monitors plugged in and 165fps with 1 monitor.
I figured how to get Google Chrome browser working at 165fps.
**FIX: chrome://flags then search OZONE "PREFFERED OZONE PLATFORM" … ..it will be set to DEFAULT select the pulldown menu and select WAYLAND (NOT DEFAULT or X11).
Works smoother than Firefox…so happy…. I have to give Google Gemini AI some credit for helping cause it told me it uses Xwayland by default because with Wayland some features might not work.
    I hope this helps others….

  5. to be honest I have been using Linux mint as my main gaming rig , enjoying Alan wake 2 , god of war , dead space remake , calisto protocol , days gone , red dead 2 etc no issues what so ever.

  6. this is huge, thank you! πŸ™‚

I pretty much just game, and watch youtube on my system, so this is a big help, i've decided to use LMDE 6, i like the conservative nature of the Debian update schedule. And i think it updated january of this year, so it's pretty much got all the newest most stable stuff, it should handle my rx 6800xt just fine at this point.

  7. I am using Linux Mint ad would like to use XBPlay with my Series S controller. I tried to set it up bu the controller is laggy and not working properly. Game is also laggy. Any videos on this would be appreciated.

  8. @ about 6:15 "what's the difference in 5 fps.." Had to wonder if he's ever played cities skylines 2, what an ugly baby that release was.
This guy also reminds me of Isaac from The Orville.

  9. I've been playing 'Hell Let Loose' on 'Linux Mint' with no problems, until recently. I check the logs and I see this:

  10. Which distro would you recommend between Linux mint and Arch Linux that offer best performance and consumption for gaming or some other distro you think it's better than those two i said

  11. Indicator-cpufreq is also very useful, not necessarily to increase performance, but to balance things out. I use it to keep my gaming laptop's CPU temperature low by setting Indicator-cpufreq to Powersave when needed.

  12. I personally found very helpful out of the box experience with Heroic Games Launcher app. Silent Hill 4 the room, The suffering, Cossacks worked nicely however in Windows mode.

  13. can you provide a guide to mapping ps4 controller I've tried to connect it to Bluetooth it worked but the buttons not mapping correctly I've tried to install ds4drv but there is no guide to follow thanks and keep up
