Another reason the stator plate screws get stripped out is because people try to use standard Phillips head on JIS Japanese Industry Standard cross heads. They look the same to the eye but are not the same

I always stuff a clean shop rag around te connecting rod to prevent damage or debris.
Did you modify the steering stops for the new clamps on the steel framed YZ250?
