Mining sector set to cut thousands of jobs before festive season



The mining sector plans to shed thousands of jobs ahead of the festive season. Trade unions say this is a catastrophe, as many families will be impacted by the job cuts. Sibanye-Stillwater plans to cut almost 2 400 jobs, while Anglo-American is contemplating shedding almost 190 jobs. Transnet’s failing infrastructure, and the drop in commodity prices, are some of the reasons behind these retrenchments.
