Mining Magnetite

I extract iron oxide from a dry stream.
Channel members and Patrons saw a version of this video that is 10 minutes longer; I got carried away with the geology. If you want to see that you know what to do.

  1. Couldn't you increase the separation effect by adding a backeard curved iron rod to the bottom of the magnet? It would still build up and travel down, but traverse a farther distance away from the sand before dropping off. You could essentially eliminate the need to do purification runs and just get pure magnetite in the first go

  2. I pick it off the beach where it accumulates in mini dunes near the high tide line. Put magnet in ziplock, pick up iron, take magnet out of bag, iron falls off. Apparently there could be gold mixed in with the black stuff.

  3. Hey Cody, do you think adding a second magnet underneath the first and back a little will cause the magnetite “droplets” to deflect further back away from the sand to further purify your yield?

Just a thought! Thanks for another amazing video 😊.

  4. I wonder if one of the metal filing collectors they use in machine shops would be useful for collecting the magnetite. It's used like a brush, but has a retractable magnet in it that drops what it's picked up.
