Mercedes-AMG GLC43 2024 review: Have the new BMW X3 M50 and Audi SQ5 hi-po SUVs met their match?

Like so many high-performance models before it, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 mid-size SUV has had a change of heart. Gone are the days of the first-generation model’s 287kW/530Nm 3.0-litre turbo-petrol V6 engine, with the new second generation replacing it with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit.

But the good news is the next-gen GLC43 isn’t powered by just any four-pot engine. Under its bonnet, is the record-breaking unit from the A45 S hyper hatch. In this iteration, it produces 310kW of power and 500Nm of torque, which is more than enough to help it compete with the redesigned BMW X3 M50 and established Audi SQ5.

In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar and her family of three spend a week living with the new GLC43 to find out just how well it performs, not only in a straight line and around corners, but also as a people and cargo hauler.
