One mineral is crucial for our transition to a future of green transport. Without lithium, there would be no batteries for electric …

  1. I'm sure there is some toad, or weed, that'll allow labour to deny mining rights.
Then labour can bend over further, grasping their ankles tighter, waiting on their commi dictator China idols.

  2. This is comical. All the banging on about the environment while they do all this to keep pushing us into the digital age. If you know anyone who works in a post office, ask them what they have to do if you send anything with a lithium battery. And why. Go and read about its Co2 emissions and the impact lithium mining has on the environment, whilst they keep banging on about co2 emissions. Also take a look at how they complain about Bitcoin mining and energy usage and it’s impacts and then come and tell me how the digital age and Evs (which is one of the things lithium will be used for) is a good way forward. Come and tell me how they’re not scamming us all.

  3. It's not whether you have it, it's whether it can be mined and processed at a competitive price. If it can be shipped in from China at a fraction of the cost it won't be viable. Unless you can persuade Cornish miners to work for Chinese wages.

  4. This isn't about expense, its about national security. The less we rely on an authoritarian government with a mindset focused on global domination (they're already attacking small businesses in the UK with Temu and Shein) the better.

  5. Don't tell the investments people they sell it off to China at a drop of a hat look what happened to Tata steel industry took the grants and closed it down it should be state owned end of not for a quick profit like every thing else in the UK including water energy oil gas

  6. Commentary is appalling, contemptuous even.
UK and other western governments made a CHOICE not to invest in EV supply chains 10-15 yrs ago, and now it’s somehow China’s fault they dominate the market??
Next we’ll hear it’s Europes fault that Brexit happened…
And what is the insinuation around β€œis it green?” Is that journalism? GO AND FIND OUT THE NUMBERS AND TELL US ffs. And is it β€œgreen” subsidising Drax? Is it green spending billions in tax breaks for North Sea oil and gas extraction?
If this is β€œprogressive media” I really have no hope left.

  7. until battery chemistry changes due to costs running too high on any part of the recipe of a 18650 cell and the scientists remove the highest cost item and add a low cost item instead…

  8. The up take of EVs in Europe is not faltering, it continues to increase, last month Norway new EV sales reached 95% of total new car sales. Even in the UK EV sales as a percentage continue to grow. China is the biggest producer of processed Lithium, but it is not the biggest producer of Lithium ore. There are vast reserves of Lithium throughout the world, including the States and Australia, Australia being one of the biggest producers. Get your facts right and stop the click bait!!!

  9. Investment must be made for sodium ion batteries. Where lithium needs to be mined, sodium is extracted from seawater, ya know!?

And where lithium hydroxide needs to be specially made, sodium hydroxide is so cheap that you use every day. It's called caustic lime, ya know!?

  10. Natural resources like this in Cornwall should not be used to make profits for companies, like what Norway did with it's oil profits it must go into a fund to invest in the future of that area…I doubt that will happen though it's the UK after all
