Illegal Mining | Stilfontein impasse continues
The impasse in Stilfontein has put the illegal-mining conundrum back in the spotlight. Government has folded its arms, refusing to deploy any resources to miners underground.
The Benchmarks Foundation points out that the prevention of food and chronic medicine reaching people underground at Margaret Shaft, is depriving those affected of their right to life. David Van Wyk from the foundation spoke to #eNCA. #DStv403 #QuestionThinkAct

Under no circumstances should government tolerate crime once you commit crime you minimize your rights
Ah come on….those ppl are violent
Yes, they are human and we all know that, and we'll regulate and formulate it going forward, blah, blah, blah. But as for these ones, they must stay put where they are or come out and face arrest. No government should take my taxes, buy KFC, and send it down the hole to feed undocumented, illegal miners who are armed to the teeth.
Also, no law abiding citizen should be made to go down a dangerous hole just because they are employed as police or military officers, since there's nothing in their contract stating that they are expected to rescue criminals when they get themselves in a mess.
Illegal mining or illegals mining….
Yes yes but not for illegal miners.
The goverment wont help these miners surface cos they are involved in this corruotion. They know the miners will start talking.
Release a list of mines, so that non-profits or entrepreneurs can go to work. Apparently there are more than 6000 mines.
Leave them alone, they went there alone. I hate these "human rights foundations" where are they where these illegal miners terrorize our communities?
"Impasse", some say "standoff" between who and who?
Illegal mining is often associated with organized crime, including smuggling, violence, and exploitation. In Stilfontein, the large-scale operations and underground networks suggest systemic criminal involvement, which threatens local security and governance.
This is very difficult for families and relatives of those still underground. How on earth do you go on with life if your husband or children are not with you and you saw then 2 years ago. Maybe the government should just give those people some space to come out.
