  1. I would 100% switch to minus if I could game, and use FL Studio as much as all the VSTs that I purchased, but the compatibility is atrociously painful which can be compared to the issue with VMs being detected by the anticheat system. there's way too much headache for this.

I wish linux would be more praised, and adopted to any type of user..

  2. Ok so Muta made the VM that shares hosts GPU, but i have a stupid question. How would him and his wife actually play? Would he play on the host and his wife connect to the VM via RDP or VNC? Or is there another way?

  3. I don't understand why this is a big deal. One usually waffles back and forth when changing. Put Linux in a VM and use Windows; or put Windows in a VM with Linux.
It also depends on ones own work flow and needs. This is not a crime this is simply a fact of life. This shouldn't be used as click-bait.

  4. I was using Linux Mint for the past month and yesterday had to reinstall Windows. Two reasons why: 1) I have a pair of HAM walkie talkies and could not do a firmware upgrade on Linux 2) there is no mod manager that seems to be able to work! If your favorite game has a great mod you want to try, it will quickly die under Linux.

  5. Oh man. Seems you got some tools to work with. Happy thing is that operating system is just a tool to use other tools(games) and you can have more than just one Operating system 😀 Will be interesting to see what you cook up in windows.

Wanted to test out some game few weeks ago. Got it to launch but it was horrible. I know i can make it to work really good if i care to put my mind to it. So i just removed it from the system and happily continued playing cyberpunk 2077 that runs amazing ootb with GE-proton.

    Thanks for the insights

  6. What a load of hyperbole! This isn't a solid case for switching. Linux has a list of games that work, and there's not much problem beyond hardware. Your drcision to switch doesn't include all the other great things you got out of things like apps, KDE, coreutils.
Also, you are complaining about AMD features being ommited from a Nvidia GPU, I mean, that's going to happen regardless of the OS. At least you had an option to try somebody's patches.
Ok, your title grabbed my attention, ig I was baited, long term viewer, but I'm going to pass next time.

  7. fwiw, there's work being done in amdgpu and mesa to allow seamlessly splitting one gpu for using it vms on linux even without sr-iov support, so hopefully vfio gpu passthrough setups won't be necessary anymore. but nothing is being done by anyone to get anticheats running in vms again…
