Proxmox

I hosted my own website using ONLY free tools!

In this week’s video we discuss how to setup a basic webserver for a local intranet, not ‘Internet. Meaning it won’t be accessible from outside your local network. To Configure the webserver, We’ll be Using Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP and PHPMyAdmin L.A.M.P.
Linux is the operating system, Apache is the webserver, MySQL is the database, Php is the programing language, and PhpMyadmin is a web UI for managing the database.
A Webserver allows us to run local website on a computer.  The only requirements is the computer can’t be too old (Maybe made in the last 5-10 years), it needs to have internet access and it needs to remain on!
The advantages of running your own webserver vs using a third party provider is you’ll save money on monthly subscriptions and don’t have to worry about committing to a contract! However, you won’t enjoy the reliability or security of a dedicated datacenter to host your website.
In this video we’re installing a VM of Ubuntu Linux Desktop ver 24.04 on our hypervisor proxmox, version 8.2.8.  After installing Linux, we’ll install Apache, then Php, MySQL, and then PHPmyadmin. Lastly we’re going to sign up for a free Dynamic Domain Name Server (DDNS) with NO-IP.com
