Hypervisors and Virtualization Explained | What is a Hypervisor? | What is Virtualization?

What is a Hypervisor?
A hypervisor is software that creates and manages virtual machines (VMs) on a physical computer. It allows multiple operating systems (OS) to run simultaneously on a single physical machine by allocating resources like CPU, memory, and storage to each VM.

How Does a Hypervisor Work?
Virtualization: The hypervisor sits between the hardware (CPU, RAM, etc.) and the operating systems. It abstracts the physical hardware and presents virtual hardware to the VMs.
Resource Allocation: It divides the physical resources among multiple VMs, ensuring each one gets a share of the CPU, memory, and storage.
Isolation: Each VM operates independently of others. If one VM crashes, it doesn’t affect the others because they are isolated from each other.

Types of Hypervisors:

Data Center: A Type 1 hypervisor like VMware vSphere manages multiple virtual servers on a single physical server, optimizing resource use and simplifying management.

Developer Testing: A Type 2 hypervisor like Oracle VirtualBox lets developers run different operating systems on their laptops to test software across environments without needing multiple physical machines.
