How to Install Movie Battles 2 on Linux Mint Cinnamon

Python script link:

Preface:

The python script is NOT mine. All credit goes to aster.nova. This is not necessarily an all-purpose installation guide (nor is it an official one). These are the steps that made MBII run on my system, running on the latest version of Linux Mint Cinnamon. The official install method requires slightly different instructions that I think are too cryptic, but maybe I will make another tutorial with those instructions in the future.

FOR QUESTIONS, here is my discord: bud_demant

Required Files:

-Jedi Academy files

-The following python libraries installed (If you are on the latest version of Linux Mint Cinnamon they should already be installed):
– requests
– bs4
– lxml

-mbiiupdate.py (found in the gist.github link)

0:00 – Chapter 1: JKA Steam install

NOTE:
Regarding Steps 1-5, you can enable Steam Play for individual games (rather than all of them) by navigating to Steam Settings, Compatibility.

1. In Steam, click on the menu labeled “Steam” in the upper left corner

2. Select settings

3. Select Compatibility

4. Set “Enable Steam Play for all other titles” to ON

5. From here, you will have to restart the Steam launcher

6. Install Jedi Academy

0:33 – Chapter 2: Create mb2 folder

1. When JKA has finished installing, right-click on the game in your library

2. Select Properties

3. Select Installed Files

4. Select Browse

5. Open the “GameData” folder

6. Copy the “base” folder

7. Create a new folder (anywhere and can be named anything)

8. Paste the “base” folder into this new folder

1:12 – Chapter 3: mb2 updater python file

4. Go to this link:

5. In the section titled mb2update.py, right-click “Raw” and select “Save Link as”

6. Save mb2update.py (make sure it is saved with the .py extension)

7. Copy and paste mb2update.py into your new folder (from Chapter 2, Step 7)

8. Right-click mb2update.py

9. Select Properties, Permissions, and then click the checkbox labeled “Allow executing”

10. Open mb2update.py and select “Run in Terminal”

You should see various files being added into your folder (mbii.i386, mbiided.i386, rd-rend2-mbii_i386.so, etc.) as well as assets being downloaded.

NOTE:

– You must have the aforementioned python libraries installed (listed at the top)

– mb2update.py may terminate early and the following steps will not work. If this happens, run mb2update.py again until you can see that it has finished installing the required assets.

2:26 – Chapter 4: Run mb2

Follow Chapter 3, Steps 8-10 for the file labeled “mbii.i386”

Thanks to:
aster.nova for writing mb2update.py
