How to Install Linux in Windows: A Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Install Ubuntu using PowerShell
Search for PowerShell and run it as Administrator
Type the command wsl –install and press Enter
This will install the Ubuntu operating system on your device
Step 2: Restart and Set Up Ubuntu
Restart your computer
Once logged in to Windows, the Ubuntu command prompt will open and request a username and password
Enter the details and close the dialog box
Step 3: Verify Ubuntu Installation
Search for WSL and open it
Type the command lsb_release -a and press Enter
This will show that you have the latest version of Ubuntu installed
Step 4: Install Kali Linux
Open your browser and navigate to Kali.org
Click on the Download button
Select WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) and then Microsoft Store
Click on the Download button to open the Kali Linux app in Microsoft Store
Enter a username and password to use Kali Linux
Step 5: Verify Kali Linux Installation
Type the command lsb_release -a and press Enter
This will show the version of Kali Linux installed
Step 6: Update Packages and Install Kex
Press the Windows key + R and type cmd to open the command prompt
Type wsl -d kali-linux and press Enter
Type lsb_release -a and press Enter
Type sudo apt update and enter your password to update packages
Type sudo apt install -y kali-win-kex and press Enter to install Kex
Step 7: Launch Kali Linux
Type kex and press Enter
Enter the password twice to launch Kali Linux
You’re Done!
You now have Kali Linux installed on your Windows device, which can be used for penetration testing and ethical hacking purposes.
