Can I keep it at home?
Specifically, an HPE DL360 Gen9 Server was used in this video, equipped with 2 Intel Xeon E5-2698 v3 CPUs @ 2.30GH for a total of 64 cores.
There are also 8 SSDs of 8 TB each installed (so they do not make any noise).
The video shows the cold boot phase, then from a total off state to full OS boot.
The operating system in this test is Proxmox VE 8.1.3, where 5 VMs (both windows and linux) and 8 Docker containers are running inside.
So…can one keep such a server in the house?
It depends, it’s certainly not a zero noise machine, but in a working environment (small business, or personal lab) it’s more than acceptable noise.
