Hmm you either Accidentally Deleted Recovery Partition or OEM/fresh Windows 11 install gives error “Could not find the Recovery Environment” when trying to reset it to factory defaults.
In that case, you are at the right channel/video, this is a complete fix and this video session shall resolve the following errors/issues:
– Can’t do factory reset on Windows 11 because of error – Could not find the Recovery Environment.
– Fix The Windows RE Image Was Not Found error
– Fix missing WinRe.wim from the system32 recovery folder.
– Mounting and Dismounting the install.wim file
– Run fancy looking command called reagentc /info (for no reason) and reagentc /enable (the actual needed command).
Note: I have Windows 10 Video as well that talks about the error “Could not find the Recovery Environment”, the video is for a Lenovo Laptop right from the factory.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 process has 1 step that is different, Windows 11 is 1 less step !! Everything else remains the same.
These steps are pretty straightforward and hopefully you find them easy to perform.
If you followed all the steps in order, you will have fully working Windows Recovery Environment on your Windows 11 and be able to do factory reset of Windows 11.
Remember, to launch Command Prompt as Administrator. Administrator access will be required for this fix.
The most important file is the Winre.wim file, that for some reason goes missing even on a fresh from the factory installed Windows setup, or sometimes accidental deletes of the Recovery Partition by end users.
File we need to replace are Winre.Wim and ReAgent.xml from the Original Windows 11 ISO/USB etc.
Listed are some of the things I have done in the video along with the commands used for easy copy pasting action for you guys :). Please remember to modify according to your folder locations (or could just create the folders as shown in the video and simply copy paste command) for the install.wim file and your mounting directory you wish to mount the image to.
To get the index value of your operating system, I have included them at the end as well, so do not have to run this specific command.
Dism /Get-ImageInfo /imagefile:C:yourfolderinstall.wim
Main Command to Run (replace index value with your Operating System, example Windows Pro is index value 6) is :
dism /mount-wim /wimfile:”C:yourfolderinstall.wim” /index:1 /mountdir:c:yourmountingdir /readonly
Second main command to enable the Windows Recover Environment
reagentc /enable
Stay tuned for the fix where you are not able to delete the mounted directory folder. Will provide link to the video when its uploaded. But if you do a clean factory reset you will not need to delete the folder as clean files options will remove all files.
