At long last we have a BMW M5 Touring again!
Which, if you’re a parent, or a practical person with a ‘lifestyle’, means this could be all the car you’ll ever want. And if you’re not one of those, then the wobblier estate body and lack of a carbon roof might mean you think the Touring is destined to only ever be a worse version of an M5 saloon.
Either way, we haven’t had a big-booted BMW M5 since the V10-powered, E60-generation model, and with all the obvious rivals dead or dying out, there’s a rather large gap in the market for this new 717bhp über-estate.
So, what chance does the M5 Touring have at greatness? To find out, Top Gear Magazine’s Deputy Editor, Ollie Kew, has been in a studio with one, while Editor-in-Chief, Jack Rix, has been driving a prototype…

Look, CO2 reductions should not be the target anymore. It's just absurd. You OEMs think you are trying to save the world by reducing the CO2 emissions from your vehicles by adding some batteries and electric motors and end up building a tank. Furthermore cars are having ridiculous amounts of power these days. If your vehicles are getting bigger, heavier, and faster, you need more energy to run them.
If the newer cars need more energy to run than the old ones, how are you saving the world exactly?😂

Loved glass hatch tailgate they shouldn’t have got rid of it. Great for getting fresh air to dogs whilst they wait in boot and also for grabbing a few bits when backed up against a wall

BMW is going to have to start measuring their vehicles weight in long tons of displacement like an old battleship or oil tanker at this rate. I wonder what the draft on this steamer is? 8 feet id reckon for such a porker.
This thing weighs more than a Ram 1500. F150 Silverado 1500 or Tundra. I know the fanboys will say "but its faster than those trucks!" Yeah, i can also tow 11,500 pounds or more with all of those trucks. This thing will damn near need a CDL to drive with how morbidly obese this thing is. This thing weighs over 1100 pounds MORE than a Hellcat Charger and that thing was the gold standard for fat overweight cars. Whats the point of stupid little ugly carbon fiber bits when this thing weighs as much as an adolescent elephant? Why not just make it a nicer looking aluminum or brushed stainless steel or open pore wood? Its not like those plasticky paddles are going to save any meaningful amount of weight when this "sport" wagon weighs more than a body on fram pick up truck that can tow a boat across the country. This is just insane at this point.
