Error activating my windows 7 product key. I called phone support & completing by text link

I recently installed windows 7 onto my laptop.
The problem is it’s been nagging me to activate a valid windows product key.

Soooo… I found one lying around my house.
I tried changing the windows product key, but it said there was an error activating the key. If I wanted to activate the key I could call support.

Surprisingly, when I called.. they forced me to use a text link to get the numbers online instead of by phone.. go figure?
