Virtualization

Elephant in the room – Sebastian Scheele and Fabian Deutsch

The virtualization landscape is undergoing a significant shift.

Modernization of applications via containerization with platforms like Kubernetes is one driver, but the current shift is dominated by the question: What platform should I be using for virtualization in the future?

Kubernetes is one of the prospects that can run containers and virtual machines alike. Kubernetes floats on a rich ecosystem of open-source projects and commercial products. Both sides are now exposed to the increased enterprise requirements around virtualization workloads, and find themselves at the epicentre of change, and are forced to adapt and innovate.

This presentation looks at Kubernetes – an enterprise ready and open platform – for virtualization, how vendors are catching up, what this means for your personal timelines, and how patience and a crawl-walk-run strategy are your allies in defining this future platform. How you can give your teams sufficient lead time to become successful in building, and owning your next-generation virtualization platform.

Sebastian, a developer himself, has his finger on the pulse of where the Kubernetes landscape is going and is contributing many of his team’s resources to upstream K8s development.

Fabian Deutsch is an open source software specialist and enthusiast. Fabian has been in the Linux plumbing, CNCF, and Kubernetes space for the last two decades.
