Defence Headquarters Condemns Calls for Military Coup in Nigeria

The Defence Headquarters in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, has condemned recent calls for a military coup, labelling it a treasonable offence under the law. This warning was issued by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, following the emergence of a viral video in which individuals expressed their grievances and called for a military takeover. The statement also clarified that there has been no appointment of an acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to replace Taoreed Lagbaja, who is currently on a well-deserved annual leave for 2024. Major General Abdulsalam Bagudu Ibrahim, the Chief of Policy and Plans, is providing routine briefs to the COAS in accordance with standard military procedures.
