#AzureSQL #AzureDevOps #DevSecOps #GitHub — Data Virtualization in Azure SQL Database enters private preview, and GitHub Advanced Security for Azure DevOps enters general availability.

Hello, this is Nick Hauenstein, and welcome to your Azure Daily Minute for Tuesday, September 26th, 2023.

Last week, the Azure SQL Database team announced the private preview of Data Virtualization in Azure SQL Database. Data Virtualization in Azure SQL Database enables working with CSV, Parquet, and Delta files stored in Azure Blob Storage and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2. Data Virtualization enables you to access real-time data where it is without data movement. At the same time, you can leverage all of the benefits of the T-SQL language. Users and applications can use Azure SQL database as a data hub — accessing all the required data in a single environment. Data Virtualization in Azure SQL Database is in active development, if you want to be part of the private preview see the link in the episode description.

Also last week, GitHub Advanced Security for Azure DevOps entered general availability. Now the core scanning capabilities of GitHub Advanced Security for Azure DevOps can be self-enabled within Azure DevOps and connect to Microsoft Defender for Cloud. These capabilities include code scanning for vulnerabilities, secret scanning to identify high-confidence secrets and block developers from pushing secrets into code repositories, and dependency scanning to alert developers of vulnerabilities in open-source dependencies.

That wraps up the Azure Daily Minute for Tuesday, September 26th, 2023. Until next time, take care and go build great things!
