Concerns over illegal mining in Mopani District
A task team called Operation Vala Umgodi established last year to deal with illegal mining, has identified twelve non-operational mines in the Mopani and Vhembe Districts.
There are concerns that the mines which were closed over three decades ago are now harbouring illegal miners.
SABC News Reporter Koketšo Motau is following the operation in Tzaneen, at the old Modipa gold mine.
Let’s cross to him live.

They must tell the SAHRC that the mines were closed before they took the government to court again, and they failed to take the government to court with the deaths of South African children
They opened a shaft that was closed, then next thing we will be told they are trapped
