Cognition Model: Triggers of Emotions and control of Feelings
How many times have you planned out your route to a destination well ahead of the journey, along with a strong resolution to scrupulously follow the plan and not deviate from the route, whatever the temptation; only to discover later that when you reach a certain junction, your emotions take over and compel you to deviate from the planned path ?
How many times have you succumbed to the fear of missing out and ended up overpaying for a deal, that you did not intend to? Did you notice the intense surge of emotions that accompany such compelling deviations?
When we encounter an emotionally charged topic in a Reading Comprehension problem or the stimulus of a Critical Reasoning problem, in the course of a competitive exam, we get emotionally engaged with the topic and deviate from an objective analysis towards answering the attendant questions in the problem. All this occurs automatically, beyond our voluntary control and is accompanied by an intense surge of emotions that can overwhelm the most determined effort at rational analysis.
